Sydsvenskan is one of the larger newspapers in Sweden. For their big transformation to a tabloid format they wanted a new typeface for their main flag and section heads. There was also a name change, from the longer Sydsvenska Dagbladet, to the name for which the paper is more commonly known: Sydsvenskan.

The previous typeface for the flag was a condensed version of Aachen, but the revision required something more modern to bring the paper into the 21st century. The change should also be unnoticeable on first glance. Modest refinement was key.

The first assignment was for an all-uppercase typeface, but as the project progressed, it became clear a lowercase would better suit the section heads.
